FONTHILL PARK
EVENT SPACE

Spring Quarter 2020
Final Project
After the master planning phase of the Fonthill Project, architectural development began. The beginning of the Spring Term was dedicated to master plan refinements, like identifying three main areas of refinement to work on going forward. Of the three buildings added during the Winter Term, the event space was the building chosen for development, next to the Moravian Tileworks. This building provided various design opportunities.
Conceptual massing, bubble diagrams, and sketched vignettes were the first phases of the project to develop the architectural experience. I revisited the overall campus plan to heighten the user experience. The event space focused on program axis and spatial sequence elements while also connecting to the Moravian Tileworks through the design of a courtyard complex. Alvar Aalto inspired steps to assist with the descending slope of the landscape to the Moravian Tileworks. A similar relationship is on the West side of the event space, with brick walls to assist with the slope of the open field.
The final path is flat where the rest of the site slopes around the walls, emphasizing the axis of the architecture, like the visual connection between the pre-function and large hall, providing visual connections from one side of the building to the other. This term concluded with the inclusion of a process book. The process book can be found on Issuu.
